Novel Bio-based Dispersants for Oil Spill Remediation

The need to develop greener chemicals that will be safe for use and easily disposed into the environment as well as remediation of indiscriminate oil spills which are either neglected or not promptly cleaned up as a result of expensive chemicals and processes involved has necessitated this study.

My research utilizes sustainable synthetic routes involving cheap chemicals from abundantly available agro-residues coupled with the use of cheap recoverable catalysts under solventless systems, to deliver a new class of target compounds that are potentially biodegradable and can replace those currently existing in the industry for oil spills remediation.
