Towards Affinity and Reactivity Control of Photoresponsive Systems
Affinity chromatography is one of the most powerful methods to achieve high purity of recombinant proteins. The purification is based on specific intermolecular interactions between the desired protein and a complementary binding material immobilized on the stationary phase of the column. We investigate a visible light responsive column material, offering a novel light-controlled method for protein purification.
Inspired by a possibility to ultimately control the reactivity of different functional groups through photoisomerization of DAE systems, we are working on incorporating the DAE-backbone into a macrocycle. This will lead to the light-induced build-up of ring strain as a design motif for adjustable reactivity.
