Development of a photoresponsive cofactor under physiological conditions
Sarah is developing diarylethenes to mimic a biological cofactor. Light-induced change of the electronic properties of the diarylethene will modify its reactivity and allow the selective transformation of biological building blocks. By developing a water-soluble photoswitch for this purpose, the transformation can be utilized under physiological conditions to remote control metabolic processes by an external stimulus.
