Dihydropyrenes to Control Systems with Red Light

Anna is working on further development of negative photochromic molecular photoswitches, particularly dihydropyrenes (DHPs). Hereby, she focuses on various functionalization patterns and the introduction of functionality within the DHP-core. Red-light-induced photoisomerization affects the implemented properties reversibly, thus offering a means of remote-control. Ultimately, the goal of Anna’s research is to translate these microscopic changes within the molecule to macroscopic effects on chemical or biological systems.
