16.10.2013 Controlling the unfolding pathway in photoswitchable foldamers

By incorporating red-shifted azobenzene acceptor sites specifically at the termini or the core of hetero-oligo-azobenzene foldamers, Zhilin has been able to guide and localize the excitation, thereby induce the helix unfolding either via an "outside in" or an "inside out" pathway, respectively. Such control over unfolding could prove useful for the design of remote-controlled foldamer hosts. The work will be communicated in an upcoming issue of Angewandte Chemie.
