27.07.2020 Cooperative switching realized

In our long-standing quest to design cooperative multiswitch systems, in which an initial switching event facilitates subsequent switching steps, we have realized the first π-conjugated dimer that allows just that. Using our recently developed push-pull dihydropyrenes we could use red light to induce a first ring-opening, causing electronic decoupling and leading to an 100 times more facile second ring-opening event. Such systems are interesting candidates to achieve highly efficient multiswitching and to propagate information along a polymer chain. The work has just been accepted by Angewandte Chemie - congratulation to Pauline & Co!
